Description

In this project focused on experimentation and familiarizing myself with the RoboFont software, I wanted to play off of the constraints that pixels present. My pixel font is an italics serif created with RoboFont that includes Aa-Zz and basic punctuation. At the beginning of the process, I referred to type specimen photos during a visit to my university’s archive, which helped me identify moments to add weight and draw abstractions in the letterforms. Working with pixels where each addition significantly changed the letterform, allowed me to start noticing details with the weight, contrast, and consistency, and challenged me to think about a typeface as a design system.
